The project Low Carbon Business Action is a European-funded initiative that aims at engaging Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) from Brazil and from 28 Member States in Europe promoting the exchange of innovative experiences, supporting companies into their transition to low carbon technologies and resource efficient processes within the Action’s target sub-sectors and related areas, which mostly contribute to the Brazilian emissions of Greenhouse Gases (GHG)
Promote the sustainable transition of SMEs to low carbon technologies and resource-efficient processes
Internationalize EU SMEs and support innovation, competitiveness and environment and economic sustainability of local counterparts
Support national low carbon emission strategies for tackling climate change
Expand emerging companies and create new ones in the low carbon technology sector, including equipment producers and service providers
Some sectors are responsible for the major part of greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions in Brazil.
Many European companies have innovated in the development of environment-friendly technology, green solutions and processes.
Low Carbon Business Action in Brazil fosters the competitiveness and sustainability of Brazilian SMEs in the following areas:
AGRICULTURE & FORESTRY ACTIVITIES
RENEWABLE ENERGY
INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES
WASTE MANAGEMENT & BIOGAS
ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN THE BUILDING INDUSTRY
We talked to Maurício Cótica, executive director of SebigásCótica, to learn more about the project for the production of biomethane from sugarcane waste and by-products.
The main purpose of the highlighted project is to offer an efficient lubricant, which will reduce damage to engines, increase fuel efficiency and further reduce gas emissions.
Developed by the researcher and founder of COSOL, Csaba Sulyok, IoRe will positively transform the energy sector, providing a system which is decentralized, safe, cost-saving and with no intermediary. Find out more about the award-winning COSOL project in the interview below.
Low Carbon Brasil spoke with João Sousa, CEO at Prewind in Brazil, and Shirley Damasceno, from Energo, European and Brazilian partner of the project featured here, to understand a little more about the current scenario of wind energy, and how the project supported by the European Union can assist Brazil in obtaining electricity from renewable sources.
ME-LE Biogas GmbH, a German company with a subsidiary in Brazil specializing in waste treatment in agriculture and industry, is studying the feasibility of developing the first concept of technological biodigestor for the treatment of sugar cane waste (bagasse, filter cake and vinasse) in order to generate decentralized energy.
Low Carbon Brazil spoke with PISCIS doctor and biologist Julio Ximenes and with Anton Rossbach, CEO at German company GLOASIS GmbH. Together in a project that will benefit much of the state of Ceará regarding food production and job creation.
Brazilian engineering company Arquiar Engenharia, together with iNergy Agtech, an European company from Romania, are cooperating to build a brick plant based on vegetable fibres from coconut and cashew. It is a unique project uniting innovation and sustainability in the engineering and architecture areas, and that directly contributes to achieving the targets set in the Kyoto Protocol, since it does not utilize fossil fuels, reduces CO2 emissions, and promotes energy efficiency in buildings.
One of the Low Carbon Brazil’s projects intends to build a solid waste classification plant, where it is possible to receive such waste, separate materials between recyclable and non-recyclable and, at the same time, produce renewable energy to recharge the batteries of the electric trucks responsible for the collection.
One of the leading projects in the State of Sao Paulo has partnered a German company (ee-Nord) and a company from the State of Santa Catarina (Elektsolar), and its purpose is to develop a 1-MWp community solar power plant in Ubirajara, in the hinterland of SP, under the Distributed Generation model.
By utilizing central pivot irrigation, instead of flood-irrigation for rice production, the new rice crop rotation system with corn and wheat may improve product quality and maintain crop yield, while making it even more lucrative with the other crops. Area Europa and GND Brazil, that are together in this project explain more about this technique and expectations around this project.
Aria Technologies Company, that is specialized in information and satellite monitoring systems, intends to bring to Brazil a solution that has already been implemented in many European countries, especially in Portugal and Spain. The pilot project will be implemented in Santa Catarina, together with members of the Association of Forestry Companies from the State of Santa Catarina (ACR) and will reduce the impact of forest fires on GHG emissions from forest fires.
Dedicated to cattle raising, this project studies the technical, economic and commercial viability, and the implementation of pilot projects for small domes with the purpose of identifying the best and most efficient method to collect and separate the methane-enriched gas (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) produced by ruminants. With the obtained data, it will be possible to acquire information to develop a large Dome plan and replication models.
Low Carbon Business Action in Brazil is implemented with the support of Brazilian and EU institutions that form its Project Steering Committee.
Other organizations, business intermediaries and sector representations may also register as partners and benefit from the Action.
